ABOUT ME
My goal is to provide the best possible advocacy, advice, and resources to parents navigating the educational landscape for their pre-school through college-aged students with disabilities. I am passionate about helping students with physical disabilities, ADHD, ASD, OCD, anxiety, mental health issues, learning disabilities, OCD, illnesses, and twice-exceptional children achieve the best possible educational outcomes. I understand, firsthand, the obstacles students with disabilities and neurodivergence face. I empathize with children who struggle in school due to their disabilities, and with their parents, who often feel helpless to make things better for their children.
My strengths are my insight into the emotional and educational needs of students and their families, and the ability to put myself in my client's shoes to strategize for the best educational outcomes. I have a knack for resolving complex matters and getting tasks accomplished that might seem impossible — giving up is not in my nature, especially when children are involved.
I began my legal career representing clients seeking political asylum in the United States. as well as immigrants and their families seeking legal status. In 2001, my husband and I moved to the US Virgin Islands, where we started a family. Due to frequent relocations. (Houston, Texas, Sugar Land Texas, New Jersey, and Florida) I honed my advocacy and research skills while struggling to locate and access the best resources, educational accommodations, and social and emotional supports for my own children.
Nearly ten years ago, I returned to my hometown of Holmdel, New Jersey, where I ran for and secured a seat on the Board of Education. As a board member, I experienced education from the public school perspective, which has been a tremendous asset. While on the board, I served as the Chair of the Curriculum & Instruction Committee, Budge & Finance, and Diversity Committees. My greatest accomplishment was spearheading improvements for district compliance with bullying and bias laws.
I still live in Holmdel with my husband, David, my son, George, my daughter, Julia, and our labradoodle, Murray, in a refurbished barn.
I graduated from Tufts University in 1990 and Hofstra Law in 1993. I am a member of the N.J, N.Y., and the U.S. Virgin Islands bars.
